Police, Vigilantes Neutralize Four Kidnappers, Rescue Victim in Kebbi
A joint operation by the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes has led to the neutralization of four suspected kidnappers and the rescue of a 60-year-old victim in Kebbi State. The state Police Command confirmed the successful operation, which took place in Suru Local Government Area (LGA).
According to intelligence sources, the incident occurred on February 14 at about 1:45 p.m. when a group of armed men stormed Gobiraje Village in Suru LGA and abducted Umaru Bawa, a resident, from his home.
Upon receiving the distress call, a combined team of policemen and vigilantes, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Suru, launched a swift pursuit of the kidnappers into Tundufai Forest in Dakingari.
During the operation, security operatives engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle, resulting in the deaths of four suspects, while one was arrested with gunshot wounds. Some other members of the gang managed to escape but were believed to have sustained injuries during the exchange of gunfire.
The abducted victim, Umaru Bawa, was rescued unharmed. In addition to neutralizing the kidnappers, security operatives recovered ₦3 million in ransom money, which had already been paid by the victim’s family before the rescue operation.
The Police Command assured residents of continued efforts to combat criminal activities in the state, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the authorities.
This successful operation highlights the importance of collaboration between security agencies and local vigilante groups in tackling the growing threat of kidnapping in Nigeria.
